The disadvantages of driverless cars and lorriese

  • Cybersecurity

We already know that in case for the vehicles to move, it must work with the system and the system itself is connected to the network and computer. So, the possibilities for the computer system to be hacked is quite high. So, it is possible to create some safeguards against ‘car hacks’. For example, a car that collects a small amount of data by itself for operation and then deletes it after use will be more difficult to attack. We must take a safety action to avoid this problem to occur and might affect our life in the future.

  •  Liability

Let say that the accident occur. It is difficult or unclear to find if an autonomous car seriously injures another person. Due to the error or bad weather, it is even more complicated to choose who is more responsible and the computer must choose between two different accidents. Programming in those situations is fraught with ethical and legal conundrums.

  •   Sensors fail during unexpected conditions

As we know the weather can change unexpectedly and beyond our control. Autonomous vehicles rely heavily on their sensors, making them vulnerable to sensor failures in unfamiliar situation. The sensor is the important thing in this autonomous vehicle as the move based on the sensor. Just imagine if the sensor can’t be function well, it might cause a problem such as an accident because the vehicles lost it’s control. The situation that can affect the sensor are drastic weather conditions, human traffic signals and roadblocks and local traffic laws.

  •   The vehicles will be too expensive

The cost of producing this vehicle is quite high. So it will affect the price of the whole vehicle. This is because, in order to produce the vehicle it need sensors, new software and modified vehicle parts for example computer system.
The advantage of driverless cars and lorries
  •  Can let you sleep

We already know that driverless car or lorry do not need you to drive the vehicle as it will move through the instruction of the computer. So, without the need of driver, vehicles can be mini-leisure rooms. The vehicles will have more space and no need for everyone to face forwards. You just need to be more relaxed and enjoy your journey.

  •   Reduces the number of crash

In USA, over 80% of car crashes are caused by driver error. But with this driverless vehicles, there would be no bad drivers and less mistakes on the roads. Drunk and drugged drivers would also be a thing for the past
.
  •  Greater efficiency

It can reduced congestion. Automated driving leads to fewer accidents. With this fewer accident, we can reduced the congestion. This is because, when an accident occur, we already know that the lane will be blocked, and the time to remove the affected vehicle also takes time. So with this innovation, road congestion can be reduced by 25%.

  •  Increased lane capacity

The ability to operate at higher speeds and reduced space between vehicles, it can lead to 500% greater lane capacity, vehicles per lane per hour. With the use of cruise control, we can automatically adjusts vehicle speed for it to maintain a safe distance between cars and trucks.

  • Fuel efficiency

The use of fuel in order for the vehicles to works can be reduces as the innovation can create vehicles that will not use the fuel to make it function plus nowadays the trucking industry consumes a very large amount of gas. Automated vehicles can use fuel more efficiently by platooning, the adaptive cruise control function that allows trucks to stay away from each other and can reduce speed. Manufacturers could also design electric or hydrogen powered trucks or vehicles.

What’s required to make a self-driving car work??

I am sure many of us are curious on how a car or lorry can function if there is no driver inside it. Okay, let’s take a look on how it will work.
In certain country, they have tried to undergo this technology for example Volvo has been working on self-driving technology under the guise of safety features for years and has explored the idea of road trains for commercial vehicles, where front lorry guides a convoy.

The Process – How It Will Work

The bulk of the technology required for driverless car which is not all futuristic, but it is the combination of different sensors with advanced computer vision systems that makes it works. Many of vehicle use Lidar (light detection and ranging). The function is to rotating laser, usually mounted on the roof, that continually scans the environment around the car. Besides that, traditional radar is also used for detecting distances to objects and cars, as are various cameras, accelerometers, gyroscopes and GPS, which are all used in conjunction to build a 3D picture of the environment around the vehicle.

Those picture shows the example of Lidar which it can detect and scan the environment around the car. To be more understand, Lidar technology allows for high accuracy, larger coverage areas and increased speed and efficiency of data collection.

Next, the most difficult or complex part is the software that collects all the data, analyses it and actually drives the vehicle. The system must be capable to recognise and differentiating between cars, bikes, people, animals, and other objects as well as the road surface, where the car is in the build-in maps and can be able to react to an often unpredictable environment. If the system is failed function well, the vehicles might face the problem just not for the car but also the surrounding. It might be harmful to other people or environment. But with the help of the system that already implement in the car such as anti-lock brakes, cruise control, lane assist, and active parking assist, it can give a help for the system.

    The example of lane assist

Other than that, we can use sensors which can give information to the GPS, cameras, radar. For cameras, it let the car’s computers see what’s around it. For the radar, however, allows the vehicle to see up to 100 meters away in the dark, rain or snow. If we use this sensor, it will provide you the raw information and the computer will work for it. These sensors are necessary because driverless car are adapting to a human driven world. Then in the future all cars would be able to talk to each other in a connected vehicle environment.

The example of radar.

 the sensor works
And because of that, people in the industry try to create something that can change or reduce the number I have tell before which is driverless car can try to reduce the impact of the accident or maybe can avoid the accident to occur. This is because computers don’t fall asleep, get drunk, or glance at that tweet. Robocar technology could save tens, even hundreds, of thousands of lives each year.

Okay, in through this post, you will discover something or gain a new knowledge on how the technology can change the world. First of all, we know that nowadays there were many cars in the road and this will lead to any incident that we do not want to occur due to the driver’s behaviour. We know that in this world, not all people have the same behaviour which is kind, patient and any other good or positive vibes. According to the statistic, we can know that, accident occur every year and it keep increasing. Let’s take a look at the picture:

We can see that nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, with an average of 3,287 deaths per day. This shows a serious case involving the car accident and what is the cause for the accident to occur.

The Reason why people create this idea??

From the previous post, I have introduced or explain about the driverless car and lorry in this nowadays technology. In this post I will focus to explain about driverless car first, what is the reason people try create this kind of technology and in the next entry, I will focus on driverless lorry.

Let’s move to our main topic. Do you have any idea about the driverless car? Do you curious on how they will work without any action from the driver?

Let see what is driverless car and lorry mean. A driverless car (sometimes called a self-driving car, an automated car or an autonomous vehicle) is a robotic vehicle that is designed to travel between destinations without a human projector. It means that the driver do not need to do anything to the car as the car will move on its own with the power of technology.

Or in the other word, we can describe that driverless car and lorry are a transformative technology that could have important implications for society, national security, the economy and the environment. For your information, some country are in their process to implement this automotive technology for example United Kingdom and Japan.

In the next post, I will explain more details about this topic !

Have we ever imagine that in the future there are a car or lorry or other vehicles that have no driver that control the vehicle? Of course it does not ever cross in our mind that there is something like that will happen in future. But with technology nowadays, anything can happen beyond our expectation. For example this kind of trend which is no driver for car and lorry.

Technological change in the future (lorry)

Also lorry is driverless, what will be happen in 2022 ???
Technological change in the future (car)

what do you think if in future trends of car is driverless, what will happen in 2022???

Technological change and the future

When asked for their general views on technology’s long-term impact on life in the future, technological optimists outnumber pessimists by two-to-one. Six in ten Americans (59%) feel that technological advancements will lead to a future in which people’s lives are mostly better, while 30% believe that life will be mostly worse. Despite having much different rates of technology use and ownership, younger and older are equally positive about the long-term impact of technological change on life in the future

 What is Technology Trends ???

Technology trends is a supply chains which are morphing into global, complex, interdependent entities, forcing companies to extend planning beyond the four walls of the enterprise. Technology has become the essential tool for global supply chain planning—and nearly every other current logistics challenge.
